Are these temps good for a Q9450?

It's my first time Overclocking. Using the old stock Intel cooler, my temps were going 75 degrees Celcius and above using Prime 95. Obviously that wasn't good and I am guessing the dust inside at the time didn't help it either.

I just installed a XigmaTek Dark Knight and began overclocking my Q9450 (2.66 GHz)

I overclocked it to 3.2 GHz. I ran Prime 95 for around 25 minutes.

It's much better, but the temps should be lower than that with a core voltage of 1.184!

So I have 2 questions:

Where do you keep your system? Is it out in the open where it's free to breathe, or is it in an enclosed area such as a desk hole?

How did you apply the thermal paste? Did you do it like this: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

looks absolutely fine to me, but Id be inclined to run the stress test for longer than that.

Its acceptable but not great. I top out at around 63oC on the hottest core on my Q6600 after a good 8 hrs of priming @ 1.42v (in sig rigg). Those temps arent anything to worry about if your running those speeds and voltages 24/7

Wait, that's how your supposed to apply it? I just did the line method. I also had problems trying to keep the heatsink on the processor while trying to screw the heatsink in. I hope that didn't affect anything.

I wanted to see if I could go to 3.4 or 3.6 GHz, but I guess that's not going to happen?

I'm still wondering where you keep your system.

Anyway, that is how TIM must be applied to these HDT heatsinks. If you don't apply it that way, then you get air pockets which means the heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink is very limited which results in temperatures that are higher than what they otherwise should be.

So just fix the thermal paste application and try again.

Those temps are fine..

Keep your core temperatures under 75C at all time..

Keep your Vcore under 1.40V (LOAD) at all time..

Because that is max recommended operating temperature for Intel C2 45nm CPU..

Tjmax is 100C but core temps should not exceed 75C for everyday usage..

Where do you see that?

Are you talking about the tCase of 71.4°C? Or, are you referring to trying to avoid instability caused by the heat of exceeding roughly 75°C?
