Strange Slowness In Windows 7

Thread Starter
Recently I've been getting a random slowness in Windows. When I start my computer up, it's as quick as can be. The longer my computer is on, it seems to get slower and slower. By the end of the day (right now), it takes about three seconds to load start menu or maximize windows that are minimized. There's also a slight lag when clicking on desktop icons and things. This just started about a week ago. I have a nice system and I'm using Windows 7 x64. I run CCleaner many times a day (OCD about it, for no real reason!). I run Auslogics Disk Defrag and Auslogics Registry Cleaner every couple of days and scan for viruses frequently with Malwarebytes. I use BitDefender Internet Security 2011. Always updating drivers and staying fresh on Windows updates. I can't think of anything that's changed in the past week. I installed one new game on Steam (Battlefield 2). I can't put my finger on what it could be. As soon as I restart, my computer will be super quick and gradually slow down again throughout the hours. Could this be my RAM or hard drive failing? Anything in Windows causing this? I need some help troubleshooting this problem. Thanks for any responses.

It almost sounds like it's related to the Paging File, but I'm not sure. Have you changed the Paging File settings at all?

Also, cleaning the Registry with any software is dangerous.

Hmmm. Auslogics has options for "basic" cleaning that can't hurt anything and "advanced" cleaning for stuff that might be dangerous. Anyway, I haven't messed with the Paging File settings before. Anything you advise that I change?
Well, cleaning the Registry is like taking a massive 1 million word document and trimming a few hundred words off of it so that it opens faster in Microsoft Word or something. Cleaning the Registry really doesn't do much.

Anyway, that's all I think I can contribute.

Hmmm well thanks for the contribution either way! I want to suspect something from the Battlefield 2 install (maybe PunkBuster or *gag* GameSpy Comrade) but I don't know why it would start out super fast and get progressively slower.
Not to mention, I heard windows basically does its own defrag process and third party software isn't really necessary for it.

Definitely sounds like something to do with a page file though.

Perhaps. I currently have 65 processes running, 0% CPU usage, and 38% physical memory usage with nothing open but Google Chrome (this tab only). I don't think this is very high. How can I find if it's a page file issue? I'll try that safe mode idea tomorrow.
