Just Ordered Thinkpad Edge E520

Thread Starter
I just pulled the trigger on ordering my new laptop tonight ( more then 50% off from lenovo's website biggrin.gif ) and i was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this model or even any lenovo laptop.
I have used Lenovo's before but not long term and have really liked them, and i have heard that they are very good quality, but i have been unable to find any reviews on the newest Thinkpad Edge models.

Specs

i5 2520m

Very nice. I was waiting for those but they took a while to come out so I went another direction. And, no reviews yet still. These newer models are supposed to be improved over the previous: thinner, and no glossy lid, and I thought they had built in li-polymer battery but I guess not if you got a 9-cell. I guess some people would say build may not be as good as T series (and different keyboard) but still should be better than average consumer as far as longevity. Post a pic once you get it.

Thanks for the reply.

Yea i have looked at the T series ( am actually posting from a T510 ) but this deal for the edge was too good to pass up, and they also look quite a bit nicer and its sure going to be better quality then my last laptop which was a 17 inch dell inspirion 9300 which i got rid of a while ago because it started crapping out.

Will post pic when it arrives, but its going too take ages because it was only just released for sale in NZ and they have to ship the one i want from elsewhere frown.gif

Awesome smile.gif, i think their shipping times are rather conservative, I just received an email yesterday saying mine has been shipped when by their calculations it wasn't supposed to be untill next week, so hopefully it arrives early next week.

I just bought a T520 with a i5-2520m an I love it. I've had it almost a week now and I am more then impressed with the build quality. I looked at the edge, but I wanted something with at least a 15" screen to replace my 13" macbook pro. I got a pretty good deal on the machine too. Unless someone else does something remarkable in the notebook world, I'm sticking with ThinkPad for good.

I want an edge really bad. I'm thinking about getting the X1 though if the price just drops down to something like $400 which will probably never happen.

Love lenovo. My wife's T60 is great. Got my brother to get the E420 and it is really nice. I def love their simple yet sturdy designs. Also trackpoint is the business!

AGREED!

I ordered mine on Sunday at 5pm, it was shipped on Thursday(19th) at 4pm. My estimated ship was 23/5 (8 days from order) After everything that i read after I ordered it I was a little scared, but this definately reassured me biggrin.gif

Hope to get it on Tuesday (fingers crossed). Will let you guys know how it all ends up.

Won't happen- I wanted an X300 or X301, and they're still ~$700 used on ebay frown.gif . Even X200's are $500+. Anyways the E420s is almost as good as an X1 in every way and costs about half as much; weighs maybe half a pound more but it also has a 14" screen. Otherwise the X220's screen is only 0.6" smaller than an X1 and weighs the same or less, just not as flashy.

I'll vouch for the new keyboards on the Ex20's though, I have an X100e which has the same keyboard design and I personally like it more than a T-series keyboard. Only downside is the button layout isn't quite as awesome, though it still beats out any consumer-grade(including Macbooks) keyboard.
