hmm, well that settled that. But now my mind is debating whether or not to get a 580 or 6950's. Lookin at most of the gaming benchmarks(as my only concern is gaming performance, nothing else), its seems to be split down the middle for wins/losses/ties. And my thoughts are if i grab a 580 now, the price will surely fall 6 months from now, and i can just grab another 580, SLI, and be the happiest man playing skyrim, lol

Barring GTA 4, I have seen very very few multi platform games that require a monster setup to run smoothly. So I wouldn't count SKyrim to be a visually taxing game, in the same way that the original Oblivion was, because back then, the 360 and PS3 were on par with mid range gaming PCs around 2006 or so.

PCs have improved by leaps and bounds while consoles have basically been stuck at the same level..

6970, it wont commit suicide from its own heat, seriously... At least with a 6970 you dont have to worry about a fking space heater.

As long as you don't buy reference cards you get better cooling for like $10-20 more. I have my 480 @ 825mhz core, 1650mhz shader, 4ghz memory and never see it go over 63c with fan at a constant silent 60%. If you wanna know the trick to keeping card temps down, its turn vsync on. The card doesnt have to stress itself to get those extra 30 to in some cases few hundred more fps. Just my 2 bits.

think in the end, its going to be 6950's with the shader unlock to 1536 in CF. 6970's in SLI seem to compete with 580's in SLI, and costs $500 less.

HD6950 hands down, the GTX 480 was Nvidia's biggest failure since the 5xxx series.

Are you serious? I sold my gtx 480, but I had very good experience with it. It does run hot, but it wasn't really loud at all. Minimum FPS was pretty good too.
I would also choose 6950 2gb over gtx 480, but I don't think gtx 480 was a failure.

Water cool the GTX 480. Air cooling will not keep up under gaming load.
