Help me choose an 890GX mobo

Thread Starter
I am looking to purchase a new Socket AM3 motherboard to host my Phenom 2 1090t. I have already been through two motherboards, first one's mosfets died within a month, second one is the msi 890gxm-g65, which has a record of dying quickly to my cpu. So I called newegg and got this msi advanced refunded too, as i'm not trying to deal with that issue.

I have about $150 (i can go to $175 shipped) to spend on a new motherboard. I would like to keep it on the 890gx chipset, as i have no dedicated graphics card. 8+2 phase is preferred. If there is a better option, that includes sata3 and an integrated graphics card, then i'm definitely willing to consider it. I'm currently looking at the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, however I haven't managed to find much info about it on here, whether good or bad.

I do plan on getting a 4ghz overclock stable, on air cooling. I have a very good air cooling setup, antec nine hundred case with the two front fans moved to the top, pushing air over the memory heatsinks and into a thermaltake frio (w/arctic silver 5), which pushes it into the rear exaust fan. My max temps at stock clock under load are about 28c cpu and 28c inside the case. I haven't overclocked much yet as I have yet to get a motherboard that was worth a jack in overclocking.

So if anyone has a motherboard that has sata3, integrated graphics, and a very good mosfet setup, then please let me know what your thoughts are. Or if you have bad info on the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, i would also love to know as currently this is what i plan to get when i do get the money.

I'd like to thank everyone here for providing all of the info i've managed to cram into my head in the past couple days on this topic, it's been a major help in finding a motherboard that's not going to fry in a month.

Edit: I will be taking advantage of the free 2-day shipping option newegg offers on most of their products through ShopRunner, so my shipping cost will essentially be free. The max I'm willing to spend is $175. I would really like to purchase through newegg as i love their return process, and have had nothing but good experiences with them. If there is a better deal or motherboard elsewhere though, i'm willing to buy elsewhere.

That ASUS 890GX is a good board, has all what you need, and 8+2 phase power.
Used it for a friend's built(AthlonII x4 640 CPU), no problems at all. Nice BIOS, good OC-er.

Awesome, thanks for the info. From what I'm seeing so far in the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 thread, and elsewhere, it seems like that's going to be my final decision. Just want to make sure there isn't a better option in my price range, or any known major issues with the board.

you might want to look at the newer asrocks gx board, it's set up for BD.

That is another option I was looking at also, but the Extreme3 (they have an open box deal on it). I assume by BD you mean BullDozer, which adds another question. Would the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 support BullDozer/AM3+? I assume it would via a bios update as most AM3 motherboards I've found do, even the Gigabyte 880GM-D2H I had did. The one thing I REALLY don't like about the Asrock boards, is anything < 890FX says "890GX Extreme38+2*Yes140W125W+, OC w/caution (use low volts)" in the power phase list thread. Which tells me the power phase on it isn't very good. It's also split phase, as opposed to the asus having true 8+2 phase, not a major difference, but it's a difference nonetheless. Thank you for your input.

Awesome. Another question, is whether or not my PSU is going to work with an 8-pin mobo. So far I've only had 4-pin. The link at the bottom is my PSU. It says "1 x EPS 12V(8Pin)" in the specs, and this looks like what I'm looking for. Just want to make sure everything will work. The real question I guess, is whether or not 8-pin motherboards use a separate connector, or just two 4 pin connectors.

you can connect a 4 pin plug.
Some PSUs have 1 x 4pin + 1 x 8pin plugs or 2 x 4 pin plugs

i see, i have 3 4 pin plugs i believe, a 6 pin, and a 6 pin that has two other pins to make it an 8 pin, so i'm not sure which one i would want to use lol. sounds to me like my psu will support it though.
