Win 7 Homegroup/Network question

Thread Starter
I finally took the leap and installed Win 7 64 Premium Home Edition on all my computers over my old XP. I setup a homegroup for data sharing and was curious how do you get your computers to see other computers hard drives? My reason for this is I have a central PC with 4 hard drives that I have all my DVD/Blu Ray collection on and 2 other HTPC's attached to our living rooms around the house. I want to be able to pull movies and TV shows from my central computer to be watched on the HTPC's. I know this is possible I'm just not sure how to setup. I did some googling and the results at times got me more confused then I already was. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried right-clicking on the drives and clicking "Sharing and Security" and setting it up through there?

Once you make the HomeGroup. You can then right click the drives and share them!

But I didn't think "HomeP" could start a HomeGroup, just join?

Home Premium allows you to create them as well.

Right click on the drive you want to share. Click properties. Go to sharing and security. Choose to share this drive with everyone. Select "everyone" or select people or computers on the network you want to share the drive with. Make sure to give your users Read/Write privileges or whatever privileges you wish.

To share it the homegroup way:

- Open up explorer and look for Homegroup on the left pane. Click on that.

- Have any computer (central computer) create a homegroup. A password is given for the homegroup. Copy down that password (a USB flash drive may help).

- Go to another computer and tell it to join the homegroup. It will prompt for a password. Type in that password you were given before and that computer will join the homegroup.

- Repeat for any other computers you want to add to the homegroup.

- Now to share folders, just right click on a folder -> share with -> Homegroup (read only) or Homegroup (read/write)

- Repeat for any other folders you want to share

- Now you can access any available Homegroup share from the pane on the left side of explorer.
