Reflowed NVIDIA 8800GTX broke my motherboard sensors??

Basically, as the title says, i have a Winfast 8800GTX TDH which died on me a few months back. As i work with computers i didnt at first need to get it working/replace it as i still have a XFX 9800GTX+.

I figured that its been ages, and was curious to see if i could have it as a physx card on my system with the 9800, which i believe is possible? Windows sees it as a standard VGA adaptor and as soon as it says 8800GTX and installing drivers it reboots. Everytime.

I have then taken the cards heatsink and fan off, resoldered a lot of dry looking joints on the board and around the power inputs which seemed to have slightly come away. Used a heat gun on both the main GPU chip and the smaller one to the left, not entirely sure which chip it was but it felt like i should give it a good heat! Put the card back together and tested it in my old dell dimension 8400, and hey presto it works fine and gets 6.9 in WEI for both gaming and desktop, plays Portal 2 all maxed out etc.

I then slung it in my main PC, motherboard is an ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus, and on first boot it said hardware or fan failure check hardware monitor. CPU is overclocked to 3GHZ, Q6600, and the voltage is set to 1.37 in the bios but the hardware monitor is reading 4.2v!! my 3.3v is at 5, 12v is saying 16.. However booting into windows everything is working absolutely fine. If i use AIDA or speedfan etc etc, my CPU temp is -128C as is the motherboard. Then the voltage is at 0.08 for VCore (CPU-Z varies from 1.2v all the way to 1.8, but before was always solid on 1.36). All other voltages are completely messed up too.

My main question is, how could this possibly of done that to my board and had anyone else had issues like this? Even if i take the card out of my computer it still has these issues.

I have a screenie from AIDA to show exactly what i mean, Clearing CMOS removing card etc does not help!

Ok so after a few days i was able to restore the BIOS, have been so busy, and this has not helped. Still the voltages are out and both CPU and Motherboard are saying -128C. Strangely enough my PSU blew yesterday morning, when the machine wasnt powered on. Do you think that the PSU has caused the sensors to malfunction on its way out? I have since tried a new PSU and again the voltages and temps remain unchanged frown.gif

EDIT: Forgot to mention, system is fine though. Running Crysis 2 and other new games with no crashes, prime 95 ran for 11 hours and no errors.

You tried installing the Nvidia drivers for the card and it rebooted during the process? Can you try DriverSweeper in safe mode to remove all Nvidia drivers and see if the sensors are still messed up.
Can you read the sensors from the bios? Are they abnormal too?

In the bios as well, there all the same! I really dont understand what has happened :S I have tried different bios versions and still the same problem. The board is on Bios version 1502.. If that helps.

If the bios sensors are messed up too, I'd see about trying to RMA the board. Did you disconnect everything and rebuild it? Is it under warranty?

The motherboard is like, 4 and a half years old now. I have tried contacting ASUS but as usual their motherboard technical support is all e-mail based with a 48 hour response time! i have gone as far as removing all graphics cards and testing with others. New PSU, different RAM etc. Nothing works. But it was definitely the day i plugged that 8800 GTX in, but seems kind of odd how my PSU blew as well frown.gif nothing is ever simple!! lol

That's electronics for you. One minute they work, the next they don't. The PSU might be taking your mobo with it soon. Besides sensors being messed up, is the computer stable though? Is it still rebooting or crashing all over the place?

You should call them via phone.

Computer is 110% stable, can play crysis 2 with graphics set to hardcore for 4+ hours and not crash. Prime95 11 hours and no issues!

poisoner, every time i call them to talk about motherboards i am referred to some silly online support link. I repair computers daily and no matter how much i pester ASUS i cant talk to a person about it directly over the phone. Very frustrating!!
