Well AMD did give intel some real competition back during the athlon cpus were out...putting the memory controller on the cpus and being the first to put out a 64 bit cpu...

I do own a amd setup...but am gathering parts for a SB build...so don't call me a fanboy.... but with AMD putting intel on the defensive for a brief time got intel to get off its duff and come out with the C2D series... so I hope AMD does surprise intel again...just to get intel to innovate even more than it already does... one has to love competition

I don't care if Intel has the fastest chip as long as AMD stays with their longstanding tradition of "Best Bang for Buck". Will be tough though with the price of the SB's.

AMD are being far too secretive about BD,you would think if it had a performance leap then they would shouting about it...
I got a feeling it wont be about clockspeed, rather the way the info is handled. Either way,BD comes out on top or i get a 2600k....

Yes?! A picture here a eaked bench there, all very subtle.
Why because some of the guys who bought recently a 2600k would have thought twice if the would have known that BD will own them in a few month.

It's all a marketing strategy; you can be sure they have thouroughly thought out the way they will go about providing information. The reason they do this is to not cannibalize their current cpus. Imagine they release benchmarks showing BD is quite a bit faster than their current x6 processors (which it should be). Now who in their right mind is going to buy an x6 for ~$200 when they can get a comparably priced option a month later that trounces it.

But all these leaks have been fake so far,i have yet to see a full speed BD bench,im not even sure about the ES benches i have seen....

I agree with what your saying, except about comparative pricing. i can see BD being twice the $/£ of an x6,once you factor a new mobo too,the price is not as cost effective as dropping an x6 in.
I say new mobo as most users wanting this will not settle for a BIOS update and will want the 'full fat' 990 chipset.

You're forgetting there will be several models within the lineup. I'd imagine the quad-core will be right around that $200 price point, if not less. In most tasks, especially gaming (assuming solid gains in per-core performance), this will still perform much better than the current x6.

Of course this is speculation as to how it will perform but based on their "no-leak" policy I would certainly hope for AMDs sake that BD handily outperforms the current lineup. Otherwise this marketing strategy really wouldn't make sense.
