Put the A40s next to a pair of TBs and you will see why they cost more... the same goes with the mixamp. Junk? Again I can't help but laugh.

It works VERY well. Then you can spend the rest on a banging set of headphones, or maybe even headphones + a headphone amp to really perp out!
Does this work well for Vent and things like that? I don't have a ton of background noise, but I might have some. A desktop mic would be incredibly convenient for me.

I've owned a vent server for the last 8 years and spend *all* (that's not an exaggeration) of my time in there while I'm on the computer. Our group of friends are constantly in Vent. If we're not gaming, then we're just BSing. So having a good quality mic where they can hear me loud and clear is very important. Will it pick me up well if I'm slouching back in my chair? etc.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I thought I could spark some more to talk about for the OP, too. Thanks guys.

It works perfectly for vent/skype. It'll work from across the whole room if you want it too. It's about 10 times nicer then any other computer mic i've ever used. When you pair it with headphones it's the perfect solution. I usually have it about 5-6 feet away, and everyone says I sound perfect when using it. I paid $35 for mine and I don't regret it, although I've seen it for as little as $12 online since then.

You could easily set this next to your TV and use it for vent from the couch.

Awesome, great to hear! Just ordered that exact model from Newegg for $20.

Thanks! +1

I also use a cheapo desktop mic and it works great. I always use headphones when gaming or venting, so this was the perfect option for me. Sounds just as good as the dudes with high priced headsets and is much more versatile.

I understand that it's under your budget, but I'd recommend the Corsair HS1A (the analog ones, not USB) they are simply amazing paired with a good sound card.
I'd say spend the rest on a great sound card and you'll see a good difference

I'd stay away from these: http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...air_hs1a/4.htm

Beyerdynamic MMX300 or Sennheiser PC360, although you can definitely get more for your money by getting a separate clip-on mic and some nice cans.
