Not sure where to start...

Thread Starter
Hey everbody -
In about 2 months, I will be going of to college, and I need to get myself a laptop! However, I have no idea where to start: good brands/models/etc...

Around 1500 max budget.
Used for note taking, Skype, music, and maybe light gaming (I'll have my sig rig at school).
Not loyal to any brand, I just don't wan a Mac.
I'm studying pre-med, and do not need anything to run CAD or do photo editing things.
Something about 15 inches or bigger for screen size, with preferable 1080P resoultion (I'm flexible!)
I'm looking to buy new.
Not really expecting any games to be played on this, I'll use my sig rig =]
No preference on color, as long as it isn't outrageous!
Minimum 320GB harddrive and a built-in webcam.

Thank you all

I usually stick with Asus or Toshiba laptops, then just buy whichever model suits your needs and fits within budget.

I'll be studying medicine, so I won't be doing CAD or photography or anything.
I know I don't want a Mac. Budget is about 1500, 2000 max.
Do you have any suggestion for me?
Thanks a bunch
Read the sticky from S-X at the top of this section and you will get much better suggestions.

I wanted an amazing laptop when I started college this year. Spent $800 on a gaming HP one, and it was fun. Then I built my desktop and now I dearly wish I had just gotten myself a lower end laptop (with still good processing power) to use that money towards a better desktop. Laptops aren't as durable, keep that in mind

It's only sore spot is a 250 HDD but you can use the money you saved by getting an external. Though right now I would look for this model on TigerDirect because they seem to have it for less.

I can tell you that most people (especially with windows) buy far more power than they need from a computer.

I'm still in college and I can tell you though that carrying around a 15inch laptop along with my books made me sore. Then again a calc book was 10lbs. I'd honestly recommend something smaller for that reason. If you get a Fusion netbook you don't have to worry about losing the ability to play HD content.
