BjarkeBoy (690 II Advanced)

Hey OCN wave2.gif

I bought my 690 II Advanced along with all my other hardware last summer, since then I have been doing a little modding to it but nothing much really.
Be aware of that I am a first time modder, but will practice a little with my Dremel on a old case smile.gif

Work that has been done so far:
Painted PCI brackets
Painted HDD covers

Things to be done:
Remove the mesh on the 120mm fan at the back and replace it with a 120mm black fan grill, for less restriction and noise.
Remove cross-members from front/top mesh, like this (middle pics).
Do something on the side panel (look below).
Sleeve 24pin connector and front panel connectors.
Install Zalman VF3000A
Replace all fans with red LED ones, except the two on my H50

The guts:
I know the 2nd drivebay lock is rotated and the two white wires at the top is visible, but it is fixed now doh.gif

With side panel:

Got resources to complete most of this mod two days ago:
IMAG01032.jpg

What do you think i should do with?
The side panel:
1. Cut out the mesh and install the filter.
2. Just put the filters on and leave it as it is.
3. Install a window with a 120mm + the filter for GPU cooling?
FYI: with the fan filter, a 120mm and no mesh cut out it looks like this, and no I cannot install a 120mm on the top one because of the H50 is blocking it.

The cross-members:
When cutting them out, will weaken the mesh too much making it easy to bend?

Maybe a window w/ room for 2x 120mm fans?
Probably couldn't get a filter in there if you did that though...

Just a quick Photoshopping, but something like this:
http://peecee.dk/uploads/052011/side2fans.jpg
Wouldn't the right fan destroy the airflow from the front intake fan?

Isn't it possible to make two round holes and drill 8 holes in plexiglass? smile.gif

Love the 690 II really kick myself for selling mine, like your ideas and progress so far. Removing the top mesh and dust filters is best way to improve cooling and kill unwanted fan noise in this case.

It was the first thing I did and was about to paint the HDD bay covers right before I sold it. Really makes the case stand out and its not much work. Found out after I taped them all off that you can push the pins out and remove them from the caddies they are attached to. doh.gif

Thanks smile.gif
Yeah I already removed the top mesh, was just wondering about the cross-members (are they really called that?) to get rid of every restriction i can.
The pins on the HDD bays, I did also notice that.. after i painted them.

Thank you!

I think that I'm going to do some work tomorrow (23:45 in Denmark right now), anyone who thinks it is a bad idea to remove the cross-members before I do it?
Only thing stopping me is that I have to remove all the hardware = I cannot use it meanwhile biggrin.gif

I did some cutting with the Dremel today, it is not perfect, but that was not what i was aiming for, mostly it was because of noise reduction.

The workbench, on a sunny day and no curtains:
IMAG01071.jpg

Now you see it:
IMAG01101.jpg

Now you don't:
IMAG01112.jpg

After a little grinding and sanding:
IMAG01121.jpg

I also cut out the cross-members smile.gif
IMAG01141.jpg

I will post more pictures, with sleeved cables and the system all assembled again.
Also waiting for my VF3000A, which should arrive in... 2-3 weeks blinksmiley.gif

Also need a way to attach that other 120mm fan filter without a fan on the other side, maybe nuts and bolts?

Nice work on the grill and cross bracing really improves airflow and reduces sound.
