But you're sure you don't have any problems in Mafia II? Because that's one of the games I'm currently experiencing negative scaling in.

Also if anyone tried this setup on the Total War games, especially Empire, can you please tell about your experience. Because I'm really tired of windowed mode^^
Negative scaling is from the CAP files. There was an 11.3 or .4 CAP file to address Mafia2 if I'm not mistaken

Correct, latest drivers (11.5a Hotfix) don't need CAP's for now and I've got no negative scaling on them, that issue was fixed long ago.

a 6950 is basically a 6870 with 2gb of vram, the performance difference between them isn't HUGE.

And yes, 6870 crossfire is awesome. Driver issues are rare in the 11.4-11.4 drivers.

AMD really stepped up there game.

AMD has been surprisingly good within the last drivers, at least for me.

Just installed 11.5a Hotfix and EVERY game runs with my 6970 CrossfireX as smooth as butter.

Thread Starter
Well it's just incredible I think, that Empire: Total War is like 2 years old. But still they haven't fixed it yet. And instead they're fixing stuff like Dirt 3, which haven't got out yet....

Yea man, my old 6870 crossfire was a 1080P beast!. Hit a bottleneck at triple screen res tho

Hell yeah, it's awesome.

6870 CF is wonderful for 1080p gaming. It powers my 40" beautifully in max settings Rift, Crysis, BF BC2, etc.

6870 CFX vs. single GTX580

It will start cramping when you try 3 display eyefinity or higher res screens. I have a mild OC on both cards and I dig the performance/$ ratio for the combo.

If you are running 1440/900 as you show in your rig, this will be a wonderful combo for the $. Your CPU could start to be a bit of a bottleneck for some newer/upcoming games, however.

I hope he's not running at 1440x900, because at such low resolution, his Q8200 WILL be a bottleneck.

I wouldn't bother with Crossfire in that platform, I would rather go a single HD6970 and wait for a future until you get a better platform like Sandy Bridge, Bulldozer...

But a Crossfire of x2 HD6870's will not perform that well at all in your current platform.
