Sound Card vs On Board

Thread Starter
Is it worth it? I know I know... this is OCN, we are here because we spend too much money on our systems.

I currently go from my Realtek ALC889 (on board my Gigabyte 890fxa-ud5) to my Pioneer receiver via optical cord. I have a 5.1 set up, mix of Pioneer, Polk, and Sony speakers. I love my speaker set up, so I don't need to change that for now. I rarely game, so I'm not looking for a "gaming sound card" per say. Will I notice a big difference if I went with a high end sound card?

If budget didn't matter, would you get a sound card in my situation? If so which one? Also, if budget did matter, and I was trying to spend under $200, which would you get?

No need for one really, your receiver is doing all the digital to analog processing.

If you're using optical then you don't need a soundcard. As stated before your Receiver is doing all the heavy lifting. Your onboard is just doing a passthrough.

Then send it my way. How about your car set up? New head unit/amp/speakers?

Hey, put that 570 to good use. Fold for us (see sig).

As for my car set up, I really just don't have an interest. I mostly listen to talk radio or sports (I'm 23 going on 65.)

I have tried folding on my 570, and can't get it to work for the life of me. I'll give it another try this weekend.
