Corsair F115 vs. Crucial m4 64GB

Thread Starter
I'm currently looking for my first SSD drive. And quickly stumble onto the new m4 from crucial (64gb). Then I started to look up prices. The 64gb m4 runs for about 104€. I also found the Corsair F115, which has 115gb for 150€.

From the specs from Corsair and Crucial the F115 even has a faster write speed 270 MB/s (F115) to 95 MB/s (m4 64GB), but the read speeds are much higher for the m4 (415 MB/s) to 280 MB/S (F115).

I understand that the 95 MB/s come from the size of the drive and IMHO the 415 MB/s are with SATA III.

Other then the F115 being SATA II and the m4 being SATA III, which I can't take advantage of anyway are there any other reasons to not buy the F115?

Depends if you need space? If this is only going to be for you OS and a few games then the M4 will probobly be faster, but I am not sure if you can feel the difference, the high read and low write dont really matter that much, the most important thing is the random reads/writes and here the 64GB might be alot better (not sure when its so low capacity) but I think both drives will do fine for you. And also if you dont have SATA III you wont get the high read speeds from the Crucial M4 SATA II is capped at 280MB/s (I think)

Should not really be a reason, but the F115 is a refreshed version of the F120 with 25nm flash (has shorter lifetime and less PE cycles).

However, you as an end user will not be affected by this.

Are there any other choices besides these two drives? If not get the F115, it has 115GB after all, almost double the space for 1/3 more of the M4s price.

Also remember that the more filled a SSD gets the worse it performs (There might be a few that dont) so a small drive is more likely to get slow because its so easy to use 64gb on a win7 system (20gb from os with a 4-8gb pagefile (Depending on your amount of ram))

@4Brand: I'm open for suggestions, but 150€ is pretty much the max what I'm willing to spend.

Well right now win7 with some programs takes up 40GB, and with 2-3 three games I would fill up the m4 pretty quick.

so right now I'm set on the F115. Or are there other SSDs with a similar €/gb ratio?

I just got the M4 yesterday. Set it up with Win 7 Pro, and I have ~40GB left. Mind you, I don't have any games installed yet. But I think it will be plenty of space for me anyways.

You need to decide if spending the extra $$$ is worth it if you need the extra space.

that isn't a bad price for the vertex 3, but the m4 64gb is on newegg for 114.99 with discount code. $45 could buy him a nice 1TB HDD
