Generally the tech is mixed, hybrids, so easily 50-100mpg. Early hybrids could easily get 45mpg in town, I've got friends who own them.

Yeah, everything gets transported in the US this way. Mainly because we destroyed our rail system, the only thing left is trucking it. It's very inefficient but we make do, though a lot is still moved via train just not to as many places. More like a large warehouse/distribution point, then it goes out by truck.
