even though you can build a desktop with better performance for hundreds of dollars less, good luck bringing it all on a plane trip. I was planning on getting the ASUS G53 when it hit me that I would be more future proof with a desktop in terms of performance/upgradeable

rofl... any of the preconfigured 'custom' desktops on Newegg will beat the angry snot out of any mobile computing.

~680$ for pre-built 6core AMD with everything but GPU.. could add a HD6970 + shipping and still be right at a grand.
I ask a simple question.
When the CPU, or the GPU or any other various abbreviations on your laptop dies, how, and with what, are you going to replace it?
And how will you know what it is?

people can knock laptops all they want on here but honestly the laptop i have now beats down half the rigs on ocn, but it all comes down to purpose someone going off to school there better off with the desktop and a cheap laptop on the side for classes.
my case i needed a portable desktop replacement i could keep on me at all times.

and before anyone asks here is the link to the system it also cost $1100 before anyone throws a fit and asks that too.

But seriously, if you have the cash to blow or really need the portable power go get a monster laptop and enjoy. For everyone else who cannot afford it or needs portability: beastly desktop + cheap laptop/netbook = win, especially students, I spent 2 years carrying a 6lb gaming (sot of) laptop to class everyday on foot/bike until I finally came to my senses and got a netbook to replace it, how I wish someone had told me this sooner.

If any of you can fit your desktop+monitor into the size of my laptop, I will concede. But until then, laptops ftw!

I wass reading this kinda quickly, but i think some of you are forgetting to add some stuff like windows software, other drivers and software...

also, you should be including the going rate for LABOR and TIME & EFFORT to put the desktop rigs together... to get the to the first bootup AND then you gotta include the driver setup and debugging part, because laptops, thats all done for you already biggrin.gif
including time to install the OS...lol tongue.gif

That right there makes the price jump past the cost of his lappy for I'd say about half you yall...lol
ASUS G72gx-RBBX05, price wass listed at about 2,000 in store for me...
I got it at 900-1,000 dollars cuz I origionally bought the G51 which was factory defective and i retuened it and they were arguing with eachother and the girl felt sorry for me and just told me i can take the better laptop home as a swap, SCORE!! biggrin.gif
I didn't even have to pay the 1,000 difference which I was gona pay cuz I saw the G72gx and wanted the 17 inch screen! biggrin.gif

All in all, its one if 2 choices with performance computers:

1) Desktop & Top performance, reasonable pricing, build it yourself option. Fun Fun, can save money doing it yourself than paying someone.
2) Not alot of time, Need protability, Great performance and very close if not equal to desktop performance.

Those 2 choices are for most models of cpmputers and the average gaming needs...
Not Top-Line in each field cuz obvisouly a TOP-LINE desktop will SMASH, DICE, KILL, EAT, (Whatever else u can say...lol) a top-line laptop...
Thats excluding equal costs...

PS: MOST of the parts for a GOOD desktop (most of the time) have to be shipped...
Best buy and other stores usually dont have things u need laying around...

Also A good thermal past and that stuff needs to be included in some of yall's things, but i know CPU's can come with it, U always want to put your own, its a give-in...lol tongue.gif

Laptops can just as easily be overclocked like desktops...
Laptops cooling is just as easily upgradable than desktops, just part need a bit more tweeking, and I alredy know where to pick off points with a soldering iron on my mb for WAY FASTER fan speed...lol
Most computers last 4 years easy...lol
most people never really play on extreme settings for a game, sometimes its not worth it...lol
SC2 is like a novalty reminding me of SC1 when i put in on low graphicse setting...lol tongue.gif
I do play all my games on extreme though, I just love to stress this laptop to the max, and it NEVER lags biggrin.gif
