EVGA GTX 580 3GB vs. EVGA GTX 590; Both HydroCopper Ed.

Please bear with me as I'm obviously Lord Noob-a-Lot!!!

I will do my best to not take up too much of your time; I’m sure you’re quite all very busy.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, the GTX 590 is a dual graphics card with essentially 2 x GTX 580’s on one board. If you haven’t done any research on either of these cards, then please disregard, but if you have, I’d very much like to hear your thoughts as to which card is, how can I put this, better ;o)? I realize the true answer is, “it depends on what you’re using them for.†Let’s just say I’m a heavy gamer, and I like to play with the most extreme settings possible. I fold@home, and I'm a multitasker extraordinaire!!!

Believe me, I’m trying to get to the point, but I guess I had to do a bit of qualifying … anyway, the new GTX 580 has 3GB of memory, and should be relatively easy to come by in the future; whereas, the GTX 590 is a bit of an exclusive card which should be much more difficult to come by in the future. So, if I were to SLI either of these cards in the future, it’ll probably be much easier to get my hands on the GTX 580. I’m just trying to justify passing on a GTX 590 to pick up the new 3GB GTX 580.

Here's the issue, though. I already own the GTX 590 HC, but I'm thinking of selling it and purchasing the GTX 580 3GB HC because of the reason's stated above.

If I rambled on too much, and none of what I had to say made any sense to you at all, well then, I’m really very sorry; but, still if you could have one card which would you prefer and why?

Thank you so very much for your time and patience, and have a wonderful day!

StressedBeyondStressed

PS – Please excuse spelling, grammar, logic errors; I mean no disrespect; it’s just I’m on a bit of a timeline – I have a limited amount of time before neither card is available … so, I didn’t proofread thoroughly; at the same time, there is no real rush for a reply if you choose to reply at all.

Again – Respectfully Yours,

Lord Noob-A-Lot; aka StressedBeyondStressed; aka my broker's name is EF Nuttin ...

If your resolution is about 1920x1200 I'd go with the 580 3GB, if you're below that go with the 590.

The only reason I would go 580 3gb is if I had 3 monitors to play surround on. Other then then I'd go 590

Ok if your going SLi 580s they will perform better than a single 590 however if your planning on going SLi with 2 590s then they will perform better but the scaling on 4 GPUs is quite bad at the moment and it will cost alot.

To sum up, SLI the 580s if you dont have money to waste and want value for money aswell and excellent performance, or SLI the 590s if you have money to burn and dont mind paying through the nose for that extra performance.

The 590 has 3gb of RAM too?
The 590 is far superior if you wish to pay for it, regardless of resolution.

The 590 has two lower clocked cards that have 1.5GB of ram each. Hence why it's called a 3GB 590. The 580 is the 3GB standalone model.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a 3GB 580 unless you bought two of them at the same time and at least for surround. But that's just me.

I'd much rather have a 590 since I'd never use more than 1.5GB of Vram unless Metro 2033 told me.

The 590 still has a total of 3gb of VRAM and the additional cores make it far faster than a single 580 core clocked higher. And you can OC 590s too.

All of these replies make me feel like the following:

a) Ah, my young padawan ... you have much to learn;
b) I'm so confused;
c) All of the above!!!

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, my friends ... keep them coming if you would, please. I still have about 2 days 22 hours and 22 seconds before I meet Vader, erm before I have to decide. Thanks again, you've all been really helpful!
