Need a CPU fan for a Antec 300

Thread Starter
I am pretty new to system building so forgive my stupidity if you can

About 6 months ago I built my first system and it has been running ok since then, but I have noticed that my CPU temps are less than desirable (in my opinion anyway). I'm getting about 33 - 36 Degrees C Idle and it shoots up to 60 - 65 under load, tested with Prime 95. So, I want to buy a new CPU fan... The only problem is the combination of my Antec 300 case and the Asus P5N-D makes for a pretty cramped CPU fan in terms of width. The fan I have at the moment fits fine but I need something beefier to keep those temps down as I wish to overclock my E8400 more, as I have heard they are an easy CPU to overclock.

So, after that explanation I am looking for a low profile but good CPU fan that will fit in a Antec 300 case and with a Asus P5N-D. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a Cooler Master Hyper N-520 in my antec 300. It's not too big and does a good job on my Intel q8300 (2nd PC)

I suppose it's not low profile, but it's not gargantuan either.

As for low profile, Noctua has some nice one's but they are very expensive.

Zalman has a bunch of low profile ones but I have no idea how good they are.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking of getting the Cooler master 212+ because of it's lower price (£15). I'm pretty sure it will fit after looking at it's dimensions, do people agree with me?

The 212+ will fit. My sig rig is an Antec 300 with a Xigy s1283 which is 159mm tall. The 212+ is 158.5mm tall.

I have the same issue. Did you find a decent CPU cooler with our case and mobo? Did you get an answer on another board/thread?

Thanks, Really need to know because my old fan is going bad.

Please start your own thread if you need to ask. This thread is over a year old and it is unlikely that they are still around to say the least.

:doh:IWhat difference does it make how old the thread is? You jumped right in, but instead of being helpful you jump him by posting on a year old thread.. same as he did. Pot and kettle comes to mind. rolleyes.gif

At least miongbsa is trying to find information himself. Most peps expect someone else to.

Thank you for taking the time to search for an answer instead of expecting someone else to do all the work. thumb.gif

Actually, my point was more that he jumped in asking an OP who made 2 posts on the entire forum over a year ago about whether or not he solved his problem or not and that, if he wanted better answers, he would be better off making his own thread as opposed to asking questions of people who are no longer active. While I do encourage searching for your own answers I would suggest that posting in a thread that all previous posters will have completely forgotten about, as opposed to just taking the information or creating a new thread, would not be particularly productive.

If I had an answer I would give it, but as I do not I simply suggested a more appropriate way of seeking out that answer.
