Looking for a new laptop

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've bought a laptop so i need help from you guys. Here's the standard template.

What is your maximum budget?
$1,300

What country are you in?
Puerto Rico

What will be the uses of this laptop?
School and work stuff, using AutoCAD, Photoshop, 3DSMax, Maya, etc

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Asus but it can be any brand as long as it’s not a Mac (no offense)

What screen size do you require?
~14†or larger I’d say

What screen resolution do you require?
would love a FHD display but can compromise to something like 1600x900 or even 1366 x 768 if the price is right.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
As long as possible, I’ve been spoiled by my Asus netbook and I’m out of my house a lot.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
BFBC2, CoD MW 2, SF IV, Portal 2 @ average settings, though this isn’t really a deal breaker as I have my desktop.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Would prefer none but anything it comes with is ok as I would most likely do a reinstall with Win7 Pro (hurray for unlimited free keys).

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Not really, though I would like to avoid lights and stuff that some gaming laptops bring (Asus)

How much hard drive space do you need?
Anything...

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Would prefer 4 ram slots to upgrade memory and if possible 2 HDD Slots as I would like a mechanical and SSD Drive in it. I think here it would be either one or the other, if so I would prefer the 4 ram slots and pay extra for a larger SSD.

Is there anything else we need to know?
One thing I’m concerned about is warranty in Puerto Rico. Certain companies exclude US territories from the normal warranty and force you to use international warranty or pay an extra (bloated) fee. This is kind of why I listed Asus as preferred; there warranty is great.

Hope you guys can help me

I would recommend getting this one easily. My friend owns this one and it is really cool. The battery life is ok on it. There is a back-light on it that you can turn on and off. I think this would be perfect to suit your needs.

Maybe this thread is not at a total loss, pretty much nearly same budget, same deal.

I guess Asus is your only choice for warranty purposes.
