Fate By Numbers.

Today on my travels, I was feeling a bit peckish.
I was growing tired of the cookie cutter shooters and easily replaceable main characters in my current game collection.

I needed something fresh.
Something intriguing.
Something... unlike anything else.

Then, I stumbled across Fate By Numbers.

Immediately, I had flashbacks to the cutscene comics of Max Payne. Very dark and with obvious influence from Noir detective flicks. Oddly enough, you play a detective in this game. The art style is like Blade Runner and Max Payne mashed together into a beautiful pulp. I highly recommend sipping on a glass of scotch on the rocks and puffing on a cigar while experiencing this. tongue.gif

In terms of pure production value, FBN is on a whole other level. Everything from the lighting, actors, and the script was professionally done. I rarely use the word immersion (Mostly because I feel it's incredibly overused), but this game has so much dripping off it, you'll slip and fall. The style of this game is just plain slick. Rain will pound all around you when you navigate the city streets, the lingo used by the characters will stick in your head, and the music will make you feel like you're actually in a movie. It's real tight Daddy-O. cool.gif

The gameplay is simple, think like a detective. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but if you've played any adventure games in the past 10 years, you'll get the hang of this lickity split. Investigating clues, interrogating witnesses, and tracking down things like a wolf hound.

It's an absolutely incredible game and something that will stay with you for a long time.

Hop to it Gumshoe. wink.gif

Never understood the fascination with what are basically interactive movies. Wish Western games were more "gamey" since Japan doesn't do PC, atleast outside of Japan.

I think I may have played that before...though I don't remember how the storyline all turned out. I remember something about the protagonist being hit by a sniper rifle early on, but not much else.

Devs have been striving for a more cinematic feel for years now. Take Mass Effect for example. It's very story and cut scene heavy, and there was a huge market for that.

Trust me, there are TONS of Japanese indie games out, you just need to know where to find them tongue.gif.
