Corsair HX1000 PSU is dead, I think

Thread Starter
So, a while ago now, a couple of months I guess, I got up in the morning to find my computer unable to boot (it was not left on overnight, it was off). Tried a few things, used a crappy little power supply I have, determined that the PSU (my HX1000) was at fault. Jumping from the green to a ground it will power nothing, except when I have it plugged into the Mobo, the lights come on, but no fans or HDDs spin.

Unfortunately, I have opened it up and replaced the stock fan, so my warranty is essentially voided (I bought it about 18 months ago). I bought an OCZ Z-series 1000W, which has worked perfectly since then.

I figured one day I would eventually try and see what was wrong with it, so finally I had a look, but I'm no expert and I can't see anything particularly wrong. I think that at the time, it didn't smell like burnt electronics, but as I said, it could have died at any time overnight and the smell may have dissipated.

So, here I am, wondering if anybody has had the same problem, and if anyone knows what could be wrong. I'm upgrading a couple of things in my main rig and putting the other stuff to work as a folding rig, so I was going to need a new PSU, and thought "hey, if I could fix that HX1000, I won't need to spend some stupid amount on a new PSU."

So, yeah... any advice welcomed, thanks in advance!

I'm assuming that you meant using the paperclip method...if not then go ahead and check out the video below...

Basically if the test doesn't work...then your PSU is dead 100%.
