Another hint the mobo is the culprit is typically on a bootup with my GPU in the slot but without the two 6pin plugs plugged into the card you get the beep from the card indicating not enough power. It doesn't beep at all.
A dead CPU will do the same thing, you know.
All we know 100% is it's not the RAM, as you'll get beeps if no RAM is inserted into a working cpu/board.

Have you tried (for giggles) removing the CPU, trying to power the board on WITHOUT the CPU inserted, then putting the CPU (and HSF) back on and powering it on again? Now that's a last ditch effort.

(and yes RMA the board first).

He said tried without no memory installed.

My symptoms with the dead proc, post would always hang on the cpu check.
Which btw is after the mem check.

I will say I'm grateful it died prior to the 30 day Microcenter return policy.

I took it back to microcenter and they had the Z68 for 30$ more. I couldn't remember the equivalent Gigabyte model number so I just picked up a Z67 Asus board. I figured the on board video outputs will come in handy when I demote this box to an ESXi host and if I ever get a deal on an SSD the SSD cache is there for me.

Lets hope this one holds out or if it's going to, croaks within the 30 day return period too

I wish to have an adult exchange with every member of this forum. You need to understand that I have a very small window to get to know you, and that there are people out there who genuinely don't know how to do simple things like reset their CMOS.

I'm glad you were able to return your motherboard and pick up an upgraded one in the process .
