i honestly really like debian, i dont see why its tagged as noobish like ubuntu :/
its rock solid, has a great package manager many people are familiar with from ubuntu and the demon spawn of ubuntu... it has really well organized repos, stable for the rock solid older packages, testing for the newer stuff thats really stable, and unstable and experimental beyond that...
you can pin packages you want to keep from stable and upgrade to testing and youve got a pretty good set up
i use command line more often than not in debian, its not like im stuck to a GUI... i use #! because its a custom set up of debian with openbox and a lot of programs i use by default, so it cuts out a lot of install time and its easy to set up while still being a very powerful and usable system with the stability and speed of debian
there is more than a few things wrong with ubuntu... but as far as debian goes its really good, and there is no reason it should be lumped into the same catagory as ubuntu :/ if you want a more usable less nooby break all your **** distro, but still like apt... debian is a GREAT choice
although if you do want to get respect from other linux users for which distro you run.... use arch or slackware or something lol fedora and opensuse are both good distros but i personally just hate em :/
