Iphone vs Andriod as a music player? - Page 8

Apps are the ones that make it interesting, If i'm not mistaken, Android has Winamp, while the stock Iphone player is good as is. Although, the reskinned/cool looking version of the Android Player on my Xperia Arc feels great. =D

I like to organize my folder, and I use Meridan on Android, nice customization, plus I can use ogg and other formats versus Apple's closed formats. For the most part they are pretty much the same, either one makes a fantastic MP3 player.

Although at stock I think iOS has the lead for looks, Android has FLAC support out of the box which REALLY matters. Android wins here.

Simplicity? How about this:

Getting music on the phone:

Android:
1. Find music folder.
2. Plug phone in.
3. Copy to SD card.

iPhone:
1. Install iTunes.
2. Find music folder.
3. Import folder to iTunes.
4. Plug iPhone in.
5. Set iPhone up in iTunes.
6. Copy music to iPhone.

iPhone:
1. Can't.

Music is one of the things where Android "just works", where the iPhone is a PITA.

Android supports more formats, has more players, music widgets, DSP effects, and actually lets you access your music.

I can add and remove music at will, using any computer. The only requirement is support for usb storage. It doesn't require a special program, doesn't even require a computer. If I wanted to share a song with some other Android owner I could simply send it device to device using FTP.

When I want to update my phone or flash a rom I don't have to worry about backing up my music files, because the update doesn't touch my SD card.

IMO its not even up for debate. Its like asking if a cassette player is better than an MP3 player. Android simply offers more features.

I'm on a fascinate. I hate the stock music player. Every other player I've used does not compare to the easy yet powerful iPhone music player. I'm going iPhone 4 in a few weeks.

Depending on how large your collection is, it might not all fit on ANY phone. An Android device may have an SD card slot which can help. For iOS, I found one of my most favorite apps this last week: Audio Galaxy. You can stream all of our music directly to your phone from your home PC. No need to waste space on your device with music...(or video, for that matter, if you look at the other app in my thread)

My thread about it: http://www.overclock.net/tablet-comp...found-ios.html

I don't find the iPod implementation of having to use a proprietary program to handle all my music files. Plus, the iPhone does not support a lot of codecs like FLAC, lossless WMA, Ogg, etc. which are lauded for superior sound quality.

Tons of music players in Android are superior to stock, like Winamp and Rockbox. Aside from the varied codec support, it also features DSP effects, full-featured equalizers, and many more. You're gonna miss out on developer support should you decide to leave the Android camp.

Apple don't allow you to use all kinds of audio formats, but it is great for music, I have the iPod touch 4th gen (I think) and its really easy to use, but Android have a WIDE variety of music players on the market, my favourite is RealPlayer, I love the short cut it leaves on your desktop so you don't have to keep navigating to the player, little things like that can make something so appealing. I love Android but iOS is great in its own ways.
