i7 2600k P8P67-M CPU cooler

Thread Starter
Sup guys,

My mate got a new i7 2600k and I am wondering what the best air cooling unit for the CPU is as of January 2011 or earlier.

I have looked at a Thermalright Silver Arrow and Noctua ND-H14. Both of these units will fit inside the case he is using (a power Mac G5), however, the motherboard: ASUS P8P67-M PRO will not cater for such a large unit apparently.

Are there any which will fit this motherboard and still be of excellent efficiency?

Do not worry about noise level but try and post some which are quiet also.

Cheers,

Fluidz

Thermalright Archon might fit, though doubtful if the two you listed don't. Prolimatech Megahalems are still good for the money, the ever recommended hyper 212+ is a few notches below the other, but still good. If he's thinking of dropping the cash for a Silver Arrow or DH 14 he might want to consider a rasa watercooling kit.

Well he says it won't fit in that it would cover 1-2 of the memory slots.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Otherwise, the Archon should fit since it is half the size of the silver arrow yes? Just basically the same thing missing the extra fan and heatsinks. I only got into CPU coolers other than the stock ones about 2-3 days ago so my knowledge is currently limited :S

Which rasa kit would you recommend the most? 450, 750 and all those RX variations?

The Archon is a beast cooler too, does nearly as well as or better than, depending on which review you read, the Silver Arrow. The only thing you might need to watch out for is it sometimes might run into the card in the first expansion slot, don't know about that mobo to know if it happens there. Not sure if or how you could watercool a G5 case, suppose you could mount it on the outside of the case or on a stand.

Yeah but if we were going to use water cooling which kit would you recommend the most?

I know it sounds stupid but short of that we might as well get 750? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=16536

The Rasa 750 is a great Kit and would definitely be A LOT better than any air cooler.

Now wether it fits in that case or not, it's a different story.

The 212+ is pretty quiet, can't beat it for the money.
