i would say since it was a nvidia sponsored project...they could choose any api they wanted to use...my original assertion from the other thread, when amd gets off their fat lazy butts and make a decent linux driver for amd cards, maybe then we will see better use of opencl?

You see pretty clearly. I don't see anyone letting open source code link into to closed source gpu driver stacks. They can do it and put it in repo's somewhere but it will just be a toy to play with.

Repost and it's not just NV GPU's. It's any GPU that can run SIMD instructions. NV GPU's use SIMT.

Because CUDA is more advanced and developed than OpenCL. CUDA is a closed source API with billions of NV $$$'s behind it. OpenCL is an open source project with meek donations to support it.

Honest, the choice was clear, especially with NVidia offering their engineers to help.



And please god don't misconstrue that as me being and NV fanboy or against OpenCL or something stupid like that (I'm wasting my time here, but ah well) it's just that CUDA seems like a clear cut choice, to be honest.
