Any bottlenecks in this upgrade

Currently i have

amd phenom x3
gtx 260
4 gb of ddr2
asus m3n72-d

im thinking of adding another
gtx 260

replacing the phenom x3 for a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

if i do this would the motherboard (mostly concerned about the ddr2 ram) bottleneck my build

X6 has a DDR2 and DDR3 controller. So as long as your motherboard can handle a X6 CPU you're fine with DDR2.

ya i know that im just worried that the X6 would not work at its full potentional due to the ram slowing it down

Don't worry about that, DDR2 on AM3 chips is pretty close to DDR3 performance levels.

Assuming you have high end DDR2 that is capable of Cas 5 at 1066 or higher.

That said the x6 chip is still a poor choice for gaming. Do you have an original Phenom I cpu, or is it a Phenom II?

The x3 will perform as well as an x4 and x6 in the vast majority of games, its only in some more modern games like BFBC2 and Crysis 2 where quad cores really start to out shine lower core variations.

For gaming? No.

For rendering/encoding/folding? Yes.

A lot of games don't use 4 cores, let alone 6. An x3 has you in a good spot since most games are dual threaded and the 3rd core is open to run background tasks.

A quad core would provide a boost in performance while gaming in newer titles that have quad support, however it won't help with anything that is dual threaded.

So it's kinda up to you, at this point I would either keep the x3 or upgrade to a 955 c3. Either way I'd wait another month before you decide for sure as once bulldozer comes out there are going to be a lot of AMD chips hitting the marketplace, you should be able to pick up some good chips on the cheap.

At 1920x1080 or lower res, the x3 wont be a bottleneck. (by this I mean average 60fps)
Higher resolutions it will slow down the 260 SLI
