Yes, everything says huge CPU bottleneck here. BFBC2 takes a lot of it. Tropics is a GPU benchmark, so it's calibrated to stress the GPU w/minimal CPU work.
But also I still think it may have something to do w/crap XP drivers for your GPU.
Not sure why it's worse FPS than 275 in gaming... maybe Fermi just has a much higher CPU overhead to operate, or requires more performance out of the platform as a whole, such as needing more system memory bandwidth for it's texture swapping
I bet your new card CRUSHES 275 in actual GPU-heavy benchmarking tests like Tropics and Heaven though
Anyways, I think you may not be able to do anything about it aside from make some other upgrades. First off, you really need Windows 7 first, bro. Start with that, worst case having DX10/DX11 available will help you feel a lot less like you wasted money on the GPU that's CPU BN'd. Best case, the card works way better on se7en, and you're stoked.
Next you can pick up the older i5/i7 setups used for cheap right now, people upgrading to Sandy's
Til then, crank the settings as high as you can so at least you get the eyecandy even if you can't get the frames for now.
Lastly don't even bother w/3dMark06. It's so BN'ed at stock settings it'll just depress you.Edited by brettjv - 5/14/11 at 12:32am
