I'm betting you didnt properly uninstall/reinstall drivers.

You don't get lower FPS just because you're bottlenecked when comparing a slower card to a faster.

No need, he only has to install the new drivers.
There is no need to uninstall the old as they either uninstall themself when the never install realize it has an older edition OR they simply lie there taking up *gasp* extra 100MB~ as older files not included in the new driver library aren't affecting the new driver.

That's like saying explorer.exe is messing my XXXX game because I have explorer.exe in the game folder.
No it doesn't work that way.

I'm going to go with what's already said and say the hardware being developed now isn't meant for XP any more. The good thing about Win7 is it'll run on just about anything. Even real old systems.

It looks like based on the info available that it is a pretty significant CPU bottleneck accounting for some or most of the problem, but I think I did see your card dropping down to 2D clocks occasionally so in addition to doing the best you can to OC your CPU go into the 3D settings of the Nvidia control panel and change the power setting from "adaptive" to "prefer maximum performance". This will not help with a CPU bottleneck so try to address that as well but this should still keep your GPU from downclocking when it isn't being fed enough by your CPU

properly install/uninstall drivers, make sure maximum performance is selected in the nvidia control panel, make sure you force 3d clock rivatuner as well as enable performance forcing.

Also this may sound weird but make sure your card is in the top PCIe slot (one closest to the cpu, a few weeks ago in my new build I put my card in the bottom slot thinking it didnt make a difference, boy was I wrong.

@sausageson - I have just moved my GTX 580 to my secondary x16 PCI-E slot to lower temps and it has lowered them considerably. I was just wondering if there was anything I should look out for (What was the issue with your config? Were you by chance using a non x16 PCI-E slot?). As I understand my secondary slot should be exactly the same as the primary slot and I haven't noticed a performance hit and everything seems to be running as it was before the change.

Going to run 3Dmark again to see if there is a change.

EDIT: 3Dmark has just confirmed --> No performance hit at all on my rig --> Phew!!

Sorry for the thread hijack.

OP - As far as I know most games including a lot of relatively recent ones only utilize 2 cores so really you should be getting fairly good-ish fps at 3.0+ ghz which indicates Win Xp might be holding the rig back to a degree as mentioned. Start OCing and add Win 7 to the mix and I would imagine you're likely to see the true power of that graphics beast. Otherwise, if it isn't Win XP nasties at work then it could be the gfx card throttling its clocks for some reason which I think has also been mentioned and could mean RMA time. Ideally testing it in another, higher spec PC would give you the answers.
