R6950 TF III dual-bios/fan-speed switch ? - Page 6

I sure hope so! I'm selling my GTX 570 for 2 x 6950s and this TF3 brand new looks better than scouring for 2 x used unlockable 6950 reference boards - people just dont seem to want to sell them!

Kung Pow is a little slow guys... give him a break...
I remember his endless threads how two 6950s were so much better than a GTX580 could ever be... and blah blah blah...
and now look at him... down to a GTX 580...

and you guys saw it here... beat his head against the wall telling you there was no back up bios... and again he was proved wrong...

Guess time will tell when Kung Pow will learn to listen, and not just make stuff up.

Most TF III is not unlockable
but ALL TF III can be flash to custom bios by msi that give you the option for insane OC !!!
It's better than reference card !

OC of 15-20% give you nice performance boost !
more than reference unlocked card

success here with the TFIII/OC and the "official" MSI unlock BIOS
results: furmark 1.9.0 benchmark preset 1080, Cat 11.5

6950 stock: 1688
6950 stock +20%: 2142
6950 + shader unlock: 2314
6950 + shader unlock +20%: 2314 (???)
6950 + shader unlock +20% @ 900/1400/stock voltage:2445

so just to specify:
the OC with the unlock tool was a success... yes?
not the actual shaders. right?

Not sure I understand this layout. Was the 6950 at 1688 points stock bios or the shader unlock? If it is the shader unlock then what is your stock benchmark?

Alright I should be getting 2 of these cards either friday or monday so I was hoping some people could help me out here, I didn't read the whole thread but I know that OP was having issues unlocking. So my questions.

1. Is there a backup BIOS for a fail safe on these cards?

2. Should I attempt to fully unlock my cards?

3. What is this +20% MSI performance unlock?

Thanks.

1. No.

2. No, unlock shaders and then OC to 6970 speeds.

3. No idea.

His choice; his problem. And is this supposed to be a serious post? 6950 CF demolishes a GTX 580.

Alright, I just read the powerpoint guide made by MSI apparently on how to unlock the card's shaders and overclocking potential so I guess I'll just do that. Do I just need to put the new BIOS, the backup BIOS and the atiflash tool onto a usb stick and boot from that?
