Hello all, plz help me decide of what I should be doing with my overheated Toxic 5970.

So it comes down to 3 options for me .

1st option : Buy a 5970 toxic GPU block ( IF there's one ) and WC'ed it
2nd option : Sell the 5970 + 5870 and get 6990 + 6970 and WC'ed it
3rd option : Do nothing and wait till 7 series out and upgrade to them.

Since I decide to overhaul my system sooner or later during the summer ( cleaning up my loop and organize my cable even more). So why not WC my video card as well while i'm at it. However, i'm stuck with how much performance gain if I decide to switch from 5970+5870 to 6990 + 6970 and will it warrant the price tag for the performance difference. Also I heard that 7 series are gonna come out next year (rumors ?!?) So should I wait for it ?

Anyway, I'm gaming in 5760 x 1200 resolution so VRAM should be an issue hence I chose the Toxic edition in the first place.

Thanks

I wouldn't invest in a watercooling setup for old technology...

I bought 2x 6950 2gb cards and am overclocking and watercooling them, but they're effectively current, clock up to the upper-mid range video card currently (6970), and in a pair should chew through JC2, BFBC2, and Civ5 in eyefinity mode.

My vote is that if you've got a 5970 toxic now, just leave it and so what if it is running hot? if it's really causing an issue, like you can monitor your clocks on the card dropping, then call up the manufacturer for an RMA (assuming it isn't your fault for hot ambient, it being clogged with dust, you not having applied TIM properly; I don't think any of these are your case, nor is it your fault after reading your other thread, just throwing out the usual causes for overheating).

When the 7xxx series comes out, then I would get one of those AND a watercooling setup if you'd like to go that route.

Thanks for the advice first

I'm thinking of RMA the card as well, but I don't know if i void the warrantly or not by disassemble the card to apply fresh TIM. I ask Sapphire about that too but they haven't reply yet.
