new memory problem

Thread Starter
hi i have a dell inspiron 1100 with 2 banks of 256mb DDR and want to upgrade to 512mb DDR in each bank. The current sticks are 266mhz PC2100. I tried to install PC2700 333mhz 512 mb sticks but it makes the system shut down. Is this not the right RAM?

You should try and find ram that is the same... otherwise you will have to adjust timings and speeds in the bios and will probably have to make the fast stuff slower to get it to work....

Option 2: If you are trying to just upgrade you will have to go into the bios and change the setting from the old ram to the new ram it might still be trying to run your new stuff like it was running the old stuff

option 3: the motherboard may not support the new ram... try and find the manufacture's specs and find what memory is supported...
