Little help needed - i5-750

Hi

First of all, this is my current overclock: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1816995

It's 100% Prime95 8h stable and IBT 20-run maximum stress level stable.

All stock voltages

RAM: 1.50V
IMC: 1.10V
VCore: 1.25V (BIOS) | 1.23V (IDLE) | 1.216~1.22V (LOAD)
LLC is turned ON

My motherboard gives me the option to raise the Multiplier to 21 (as like if it was in Turbo mode with 4 active cores), and I was also able to get 3.4GHz by setting BCLK to 162 and using 21x Multiplier...

The thing is, this same CPU used to run @4GHz with 1.32V (VCore) in my friends PC (which has a GA-P55-UD6 Motherboard, much better than my P7P55D-E LX), but I'm not even able to get a stable 3.6GHz from it...

Tried running it at BCLK 180 x 20 = 3600 and BCLK 170 x 21 = 3570.

I couldn't get it stable in neither of these settings

As for the voltages, I've tried

Vcore: 1.3V (BIOS) | 1.26V (Idle) | 1.25V (LOAD)
IMC: 1.2V (which should be more tha enough to any of the BCLK above)

I can get it to 3.4GHz with 1.25Vcore but can't get it to 3.6GHz with a 1.3Vcore in a CPU that used to run @4.0GHz with just 1.32Vcore.... what am I missing?

I used to have a Asrock motherboard that wasnt stable past 171 Bclock. No matter the CPU. I used an i5 650 and i5 750 neither was stable over 171 bclock no matter the voltage.

But I can get to 170 BCLK

What I can't is just raise the multiplier from 20 to 21 to get it to 3.6GHz...

It's pretty odd...

And you tried 1.32vcore for 3.6ghz?

The power phases could be different and not supply the same flow of power?

I used to do 200 BLK 18 multi @ 1.26
2000mhz ram
That was the sweet spot of my i5 750.

Yeah, I tried...

But the jump from 3.4GHz@1.23V to 3.6GHz@1.32V wouldn't be worth it, I think...

I was just wondering why could my friend get 4GHz@1.32V with this CPU whareas I can't get even 3.6GHz no matter what...

I think it's the 6-phase power desing of this motherboard... it just can't handle more, I think

I'd still consider that jump worth it. Typically its worth it up to 3.8ghz ive found.

Actually, 6-phase is enoughfor an i5, as long as you only try to get to 4-4.3 GHz. The volt difference on some chips is because no chips are similar, hence the "golden chips" term in overclocking.

It's quite normal that to reach 4 GHz you need to feed it over 1.325v in vcore. I'd also try raising the VTT/IMC volts a bit, because that voltage directly affects that. Also, if you're going over 180 BCLK, raising a bit the PLL (maybe 0.025v more) increases stability.

To get my i3 to 4.16 GHz i had to feed it 1.35v Vcore (gotta try lower values as i just cared of getting stable, need to fine tune it, but it works), 1.325 VTT/IMC (because i'm using all 4 slots of RAM placing more strain in the IMC), 1.65v in DRAM (same as in the vcore, gotta fine tune this voltage too), 1.05 PCH, and 1.8v PLL. My i3 is running at 173x24

I followed this guide to OC my i3. It should also help overclocking an i5 since it's basically the same thing.

Got it stable @3.6GHz

Had to lower the QPI multiplier, and boost voltages to 1.2V in the IMC and 1.2785Vcore...

Still, voltages are just too high, I think...

Couldn't get 3.8GHz though...
