Great, now who's going to pick one of these up along with 32 Vertex 3's and give us some pretty benchmarks to drool over?
I was wondering which company would be the one to break into x16 RAID cards, I had my money on LSI actually.

Holy mother of raid that's awesome. The price tag is going to be out of reach of most of us however .

This is an HBA, not a RAID card.

Multiple SAS controllers? Will it still present one controller or multiple devices to OS?

my bet is right around $950-$1000. Obviously this will not exactly be a mainstream product for the enthusiast community. But it could be an awesome edition to SSD based server environments.

This article is a bit confusing actually. Although it is clearly being released under the RocketRAID line, they don't mention any capabilities beyond JBOD. But if you look up every other model mentioned in the family (RR2744, RR2740, RR2760) they all support RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, and 50 in addition to JBOD. Leading me to believe that although the top model the article is based on (RR2782) hasn't yet been posted on HighPoints site, it will have full RAID capabilities as well.

Actually I'm a bit unsure where they got that figure as PCIe 2.0 x16 only supports 8GB/s of bandwidth.
Hell, even if they were releasing it at PCIe 3.0 speeds, it would still only be 16GB/s of bandwidth. Although I'm no expert on the subject so I could be missing something.
