You still have yet to unveil what the "proper"foam is that you mentioned. Screw where to get it, I can find that... I still have no idea what foam you're talking about.

See if you can get by without some of the fans. For the remaining fans, if they use normal screws to mount, use ultra soft fan mounts like these. Note that the link is just an example. They are made in different shapes for different applications, such as if you also need it to hold a fan grill, or if your fans have closed corners. They shouldn't still be on the market, but avoid Sunbeam branded white ones, because those are made of fail - AKA hard rubber. In any case, soft mounting them will reduce vibrations at the source. This is much easier than to try absorbing vibrations once they are already transmitted to your case. Oh yeah, avoid those whole fan gaskets. Those don't do much for noise/vibrations.
Thanks for the tip on the fan gaskets, I totally ordered some from FrozenCPU.. Guess I gotta cancel that order tongue.gif I have anti vibe mounts already so I can use those.. Thanks again smile.gif

If you havnt already then install some HD dampening kits of some-sort - I dont know where you get them from exactly. Not a whole lot you can do about the PSU though.

Thanks for the tips, I think I can get them locally smile.gif

I have worked with the egg, wedge and pyramid foams in various brands from cheap to expensive and I would recommend the pyramid flavor for sound dampening/absorption in most scenarios. However, for PC usage, having tried studio foam, I would not recommend it.

Instead, I would look into Akasa Paxmate II. It's thinner and more effective in a small enclosure like a PC case. Studio acoustic foam is more for... well... studios and large home theatre rooms.

The goal of studio foam is not only to dampen the sound that travels outside the room, but to also kill the reflections that come off in walls which usually lead to poor imaging and what not in a recording.

This is not needed in PC cases, as the only goal is to subdue the sounds of devices such as hard drives and fans.

Thank you for the recomendation. I acutally went with a similar brand that uses denser packed foam (2lb density) so hopefully this will serve well

I did also end up picking up the Pyramid anyhow, for cosmetic experimentations smile.gif I also might use it around the walls just for general sound dampening the room LOL..and I paid $10 for 12 sq feet of 2" pyriamid

Thank you. I'll call up a foam retailer and see what I can find out.

Well taking your advice they recommended Neoprene inside the case and Pyramid blocks if I can manage to fit them, and for maximum effect, place extra pyramid foam on the walls near the case to keep sound from resonating / reflecting

Thanks smile.gif
