Xonar DX + iTunes issue (stopping/pausing = audio hiccup)

Thread Starter
I got my DX earlier this week, finally installed it today... sounds AWESOME (especially in BFBC2... I was blown away by how much more detail I could hear compared to onboard sound... I originally was going to play through one mission of the campaign to see how it sounded... I wound up playing 3 gunner2.gif)

Anyways.... listening to music through iTunes. While it's playing there's no problems, but when I stop/pause, or switch to a different track, it like... hiccups... the music stops, then a split second later it plays a split second of what it had just played. (duuuuuuuuuuuuun*stop*....*duht*.... sound that out and you'll get an idea wink.gif) Just letting songs play through till they're finished and going on to the next track doesn't do it.... and Windows Media Player doesn't do it either.

I'm using the latest version of iTunes, and the newest drivers for the DX from the ASUS website. I found this thread saying to click "repair" in the uninstall programs section of the control panel, but that didn't help. Soooo.... anyone got any ideas to fix this? (I don't wanna have to use WMP frown.gif)

iTunes is horrible programs 2 times out of 3 it won't even install correctly, I don't even think i would try to run it with an Xonar. The Xonar is know to have messed up drivers some times the modded drivers help. If you have to have iTunes for your iPod i use MGTEK Dopisp instead.

I don't use iTunes (there are much better players), but is there a buffer setting you can change?

I don't see anything like that in the settings. Also, I've been using iTunes for the past ~7 years.... so.... not sure I'm comfortable with switching players (mainly because I buy all my music through it)

Alright, I'll install it quick when I get home on my PC and see what's up.

Open the Control Panel and click on the Sound applet. Select your output device in the list that appears. It is usually called "Speakers". Right-click on the device and in the context menu click on Properties. Click on the Enhancements TAB. Enable "Disable all enhancements".

Never had problems with my xonar since I got it. I also use itunes and I have ever never had that kind of problem. Have you tried switching to your onboard and seeing if it does it as well?

Maybe install the newest drivers from here. They are unified drivers, and everyone that uses them seems to have all their problems fixed.

It didn't happen on my onboard sound, was listening on that just before I added the card. And those new drivers didn't really help... instead of it hiccuping after pausing... it moved it to after I hit play again. Again... no problems with Windows Media Player... I'm starting to think this is an iTunes problem...

ahhhhhHA! I got it. I had to turn off EAX simulation (the GX button on the control panel). I installed Foobar 2000, realized its volume slider wasn't working... found a fix for it, and then while checking in iTunes what files didn't transfer over I realized the problem had gone away. Either way, fixed. (although I do gotta say, I like Foobar's EQ more than iTunes' EQ)

(as a side note... what does EAX do anyways? everything I can find on it is kinda vague/makes it seem like it's not worth it anyways)
