My 470 GTX is under performing - Page 3

Well it doesn't help that the cpu you tested it with is atrocious, I disabled SLI and returned my gpu clocks to stock and ran the test. I'm not sure what drivers you used, but I used the latest beta which seems to give a bit more back for Fermi cards.

That said if we remove the massive cpu bottleneck that is Deneb, the results are actually pretty much spot on. I would say your issue related to both XP and a cpu bottleneck.

Here is his result:

3DMark Score P3564
Graphics Score 4035
Physics Score 2614
Combined Score 2680
GraphicsTest1 17 FPS
GraphicsTest2 18 FPS
GraphicsTest3 25 FPS
GraphicsTest4 13 FPS
PhysicsTest 8 FPS
CombinedTest 12 FPS

Here is my result: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1283543

3DMark Score P4690
Graphics Score 4265
Physics Score 9487
Combined Score 4641
GraphicsTest1 18 FPS
GraphicsTest2 19 FPS
GraphicsTest3 27 FPS
GraphicsTest4 13 FPS
PhysicsTest 30 FPS
CombinedTest 21 FPS

When the CPU is removed from the equation, our fps (test 1 - 4) are pretty much spot on, I'd lend the difference to the fact that I'm using the beta 275 drivers whereas you were probably using 270.

The best way to identify the CPU bottleneck is to look at the Physics test, as well as the combined. We see in the Physics test my i5-2500k is pulling three times the FPS your friends Deneb is, when we switch over to the combined, which places load on both the cpu and gpu we see your gtx 470 should be getting about 21 fps, however with his Deneb (which is faster than your cpu) hes getting about half as many fps.

So without drumming on, I would say your GTX 470 is without issue, the problem is the other parts of your system. Hence when you overclock the gpu you obtain no gains, you are cpu limited at stock.

Thank you very much for going through all that trouble of running a normal benchmark to help me figure out if my card is running well. And the drivers I was running I JUST got them off of Nvidia's Website Saturday Night.

GeForce/ION Driver v270.61 WHQL270.61April 18, 2011

No problem, either way I believe your card is functioning as it should, you're just not giving it the juice it needs to perform at its peak.

QUESTION: What are the drivers all about that u have listed there? are they what is suggested for the 470 GTX right now?

They are the latest drivers for your card, both the certified Windows "WHQL" driver, as well as the latest beta driver which is not certified and you will get a red warning box if you install it that it is not supported.

Its usually a good idea to keep your drivers up to date for newer game titles, as well as performance improvements. However sometimes they release a beta that breaks something in a older game. Like for instance this latest beta broke the lighting effects for me in Dragon Age II, but it also increased my performance slightly in a few other games and added SLI profiles for several new games I started to play so I'm just going to eat it and not play DAII for a bit while that is addressed.

NVIDIA Beta & Archived Drivers Page

Search there for drivers. Just change to 400 Series cards and you're good to search. Make sure the right operating system is selected though.

Anyways you can find beta and WHQL drivers there.
