Putting together my new i5-2500K/P8P67 Deluxe System: Help! - Page 8

You're overthinking this. But that's good! You don't want to be the guy that fries his first build.

As for your question, if the motherboard fits snugly you should be good to go. Plug that baby in.

OK. I double checked the screws again 'cause this thing is gonna be floating in the air with the GTX 580 DirectCU II hanging from it, and that thing is a ******* beast! I wanted to be sure the screws were tight, again, and it's all set. Put the GPU in. I have an odd question regarding that...

The card is in the first PCI slot (Navy Blue) that is right next to the fan. ASUS' manual claims to go with that slot for best performance with a single GPU. When I tried to secure the card to the chase, which takes up three slots, I was only able to put a screw in one of them; The second one can't fit in whole and the third not at all. I also had to push it really hard to get the card against the chase but if I just do the first screw it doesn't tug the GPU at all. If you don't understand what I'm saying I will try to explain it better or find a video.

This thing is a beast. HUGE! I wish I could have put more but it feels very secure. It's a thick finger screw, which I tightened with a screwdriver. Is one screw good enough to hold that beast up? Did I do it right? Thanks.

Y'know, I find it funny that I'm asking so many little quesions about things I never though I'd be asking about when I ordered these peices. Better safe than sorry...

You should be able to screw all the GPU slots fine.

I'm surprised you still didn't finish the build yet, it's taking you very long.

But hey, better be safe than sorry.

I'll be here to help around!

I'm actually glad you're asking all these questions I'm learning a lot. I'm gonna build my first rig soon when my video card gets here (today!) and my cpu cooler (who knows?? stupid FedEx). Anyways, good luck D Wolf!

Exactly. I have things going on in my life as well. Dealing with family, going to the store, blahblahblah. I mean, as you can see, I already have a PC in my room, so I'm in no rush. I've got till Thursday for the hard drives.

If I rushed this I would make a mistake. Going slow, I'm having fun.

And, yeah, I think this is a great thread for anyone else building a PC. Considaring I'm using some of the most popular parts out there (ASUS, Corsair, GSkill etc...), this could help others out. Thank you all for bearing with me.

Anyway. I have another question regarding the GPU. I can't screw in all three slots. It's not gonna happen. I took the GPU out last night and put it in again while trying to put those chase slots as close to the case as possible. Put it in, heard the snap, and tried it again. You have to PUSH it against the chase. My fingers are killing me. It's hard to get the screws in. Anyway, only two will go in: the middle and the left. The right one won't give enough room for the hole to be bare. I have put it in right...I mean, there is only one way to put a GPU in. Maybe PCI slots 2 or 3 wouldn't give me any problems, but like I said earlier, ASUS says that PCI slot 1 is the best for a single GPU so I want to stick in this area.

So, I put the two screws in and tightened them with the screwdriver, and went to sleep. Today, I hit the PCI-switch and pushed it down to double confirm that it was in the slot correctly. I pushed the GPU down and the lever went up but there was no click. I tried it with just the middle screw in...same thing. Just the left screw...same thing. I am pushing the lever and pushing the GPU back in WITHOUT lifting it up. I rely on the click to let me know it's in correctly. When I do it with no screws I hear the click.

So what I'm asking is what should I do? What I'm concerned is that by pushing it against the case I am disconnecting it somehow. If I just click it in, put the screws in, and leave it alone, should it be alright? Please give info...

There's no need to force the GPU.

If you can screw 2 out of 3 holes in the SLOT 1, that will be more than enough to hold the GPU.

Right, but do you think I am losing that click by pushing the slots against the chase? The PCI-lever is already in the "in" position. Is that click important?
