this is all hypothetical though, I'm keeping mine.
No.. because if I'm going to buy a used console, I'm going to buy a used console.
Even if people didn't sell their PS3s because of this, there would be other PS3s to buy used.

yes, but with a higher supply(due to increased trade-ins) and plummeting demand, used ps3's will flood the market. people who MIGHT'VE bought a new one, would be even more tempted to buy used, since prices will be lower then ever. I'm not saying every used sale is a loss to sony, but a larger portion will be in the coming weeks.
Even so, the difference will pale in comparison to the billion+ they lost in online content/game sales.

They care.

They make squat off of the console itself

All the money is made in software sales

By selling it he has re-allocated those funds that would have been made to another individual, rather than hold on to it and forcibly add one more to the army of people buying software for it.

My PS3 is a paperweight anyways, I've been thinking of selling it myself... I don't even watch Blu-Ray anymore, I download HD, and stream it off Hulu and Netflix... Blu Ray is far too expensive these days with how disposable media has become.

All my online gaming has always been Xbox, PS3 can't even hold a candle to being able to hop online and get in a party with 8 friends like "hey what you guys want to play?" Or being able to play single player games together and discuss them the whole time you're playing... You get what you pay for.
