i5 760 thoughts, good choice?

Thread Starter
I bought a gaming rig back in January (2011) and I bought the i5 760. It's really good I can run most games on almost maxed out graphics (with a minimum of 60 FPS) and some other games completely maxed (80+ FPS ). But I keep asking myself if I should have gone with the Phenom II X4 970 or the Phenom II X6 series. Do you think I made a good choice?

Yeah, but it's time to overclock it.

I despise my roomates phenom 1090T X6. only reason i built it for him is because hes to impatient and would'nt wait for sandy bridge.

If at the time he wanted a gaming rig and the i5 760 came up that would have been my first choice. for anysort of rendering though, 1090t all the time.

Edit: yeah OC the S*** out of that plz

What's wrong with the X6? It's a great CPU

I love my i5 it overclocks like a beast and for gaming its everything I need right now... ;-) I'd see what you can get the chip up to I mean you are on OCN haha. You might appreciate it a little more.

The i5-760 (or 750) was the best gaming CPU for the money (now it is the 2500K) IMO. You made a great decision for a gaming CPU, now OC it. You should be able to get 3.3-3.5 on stock volts and 4.0 by upping the voltage.

I would overclock it but I'm afraid I might screw something up and screw up my computer.

We were all afraid, at least a little, the first time we overclocked. It's not about being afraid; it's about being informed.

OCN is here primarily as an educational / support system. Ask and ye shall receive!
