Best Drivers for the HD4800 Series (Win7 64 bit)

Thread Starter
i noticed that the newer drivers on AMD's website were decreasing performance on my games, so i did a little googling, saw that some people said 9.10, 9.11, and 10.5 were the best, so i went back and installed all these drivers, 9.10, then 9.11, then finally 10.5 which gave me the most performance out of those drivers. If you have a 4800 series card (I only tested this on a 4890 so i am unsure if this goes for all cards.) then it might be wise to uninstall those 11.X Drivers and give 10.5 a try. Also, you should do the following to make sure that the 11.X Drivers are COMPLETELY removed from your system before installing 10.5.

1. Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software

2. Restart as prompt

3. Download and Install CCleaner

4. Clean your Registry with it

5. Goto device manager and under 'Display Adapters' Right click your card and click Uninstall (Make sure you also check 'Delete the driver software for this device')

6. Goto your HDD Drive with Windows on it and find the folders called 'AMD' and 'ATI', delete them.

7. Goto your Program Files Folder and Delete the folder called 'ATI' and 'ATI Technologies'

8. Restart Your PC

9. Install the 10.5 Drivers

10. Restart your PC again as Prompt and your done.

I only tested a few games so far, but that doesn't mean it boosts performance in other games.

Black Ops:
11.4 - FPS Drops down by 45 while looking down certain parts of the map (Maxed with 2x AA 16XAF)
10.5 - FPS Drops down by 5 while looking down certain parts of the map
(Maxed with 2x AA 16XAF)

GTA IV (EFLC):
11.4 - constant stuttering, FPS was at average of 23. (All settings at High, 16XAF, 20 View Distance)
10.5 - Stuttering gone now - FPS is at a average of 34. (Settings the same as above)

BFBC2:
11.4 - FPS averaged at 40 (maxed out with no AA)
10.5 - FPS averaged at 60 (maxed out with no AA)

Borderlands:
11.4 - FPS Ranges from 15-45 (Maxed out 16XAF No AA)
10.5 - FPS Ranges from 40-75 (Same as above settings)

If you have a HD4890 it would be wise to atleast see if this works for you.

10.5 and sometimes 10.4 work the best for me when benching with my 4850 and 4870. Any drivers newer than that definitely decrease performance.
