Is an 8-pin CPU power connector necessary?

Thread Starter
The one thing I dislike about my earthwatts PSU is that its CPU power cable is only 4-pin(everything else about it is great IMO)

It hasn't seemed to be a problem thus far but assuming I upgrade to bulldozer eventually I'm worried that it might be a problem for a stronger CPU.
