SLOW up speed WHS

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I finally completed my server at the beginning of this week.
I have been in the process of uploading photos, music, document and ripping my dvd and blu ray collection to it.

THe problem I have is that my six core computer uploads extremely slow. like 5-10 megs a sec.

Another computer I have networked dual core uploads at 50-100 megs a sec.
I have tried to diagnose the problem but I have been unable to identify.

My network is set up like this.

My modem is plugged directly into my Dlink extreme router. form there I have one cable to my network switch and one to my server.

All of the other connections of my network are routed through the switch.

only two item are connected directly to my Dlink router, 1) server 2) switch.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

ALSO, I installed PS3 mediaserver, but Im not sure I did it correctly.

when I stream blurays to my desktop, I have no problems.

But when I access windows media server, or ps3 mediaplayer on my PS3 the picture and voice sync are way off, and progressively get worse??

any ideas?

You might make sure both NICs are set to the max speed and "full duplex". Sometimes they default to slower speeds/half duplex. If both systems are GigE NICs you can actually do a peer-to-peer from one machine to the other. Take the switch/router out of the equation in other words. Have to set both machines with a static IP first of course. It should be faster and it will tell you if the router/switch is the issue.

I am assuming that the surver is set to full duplex because it has crazy fast up speeds form different computers.

with that assumption, I am also assuming that because my computer is the only slow one that my computer is not set to full duplex.

Would these be fallacies?
If this is correct, how would one go about changing those settings?

Also I am using intergrated graphics on my ASRock extreme 3 870 series mobo.

For personal reference subassy what is your picture of? its interesting, im not sure if i should laugh or be creeped out. LOL

I figured it out,
system properties>Device manager>newtork adapters> realteck pcie gbe family adapter properties> advanced tab> speed and duplex.

It was set to "AUTO"
BUT i ENABLE 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex, the result is the same up and down speed.

plug the server into the switch directly - your router may be gigabit, but it may also be crap.

And check whether you have jumbo frames enabled on any of the adapters - it's almost definite that you should not be using jumbo frames...

What is jumbo frames?
And how do I check if my computer has it enabled?

to put it into perspective, another pc on my network sends 2gb of data at nearly 100mbps in less than 1 minute

My computer on the other hand takes about 5 to 6 minutes at 10 - 12 mbps.

looks like your computer is running at 100mbps (which is 12MB/s, which is what I assume you wrote above as 12mbps). Which means either it's not set up to use gigabit (check the lights on the NIC & the switch to see if they indicate gigabit, check the drivers to see if they think they're running gigabit, and replace the cable.
