Best way to place fan on Silver Arrow?

This is an exact re-post from my thread in the General Intel forum. I am putting together my PC now. In-case they can't help me, I'll ask you experts.

EDIT: I just lifted it up, looked through the motherboard holes and eyed the right screw with one eye...then I eyed the hole & screw on the left of it...and put it right down. A little struggle and I lifted it back up, and then it went down...all by myself.

OK! Went with 1156 and brackets went on with no problem; though it'd be harder. w00t!

I need suggestions on which way I am to put the fan on. I have GSkill Sniper 1.5v Ram. The Heat-Spreaders on them are really small (they are sexy ram, indeed ) so clearance shouldn't be a problem. I Googled some pictures to show the two setups...

Here are the first two in front of the ram.

Here are the second two away from the ram.

EDIT: If second picture right above doesn't come up, just click on icon and open image in new tab.

Tell me, which one is the best for performance? This is a gaming PC so the cooler everything is the better. Thanks!

First setup seems more common, but you should test the fans out in all 3 possible configurations to see what works best for you.

I would say that the first is generic and the second would be more beneficial if you have tall ram sinks.

I went with the first setup. One of my case's exhaust fans is so close to the heatsink that it made no sense to go for the second setup.
Really though, The second setup is only useful for people with tall memory sticks.

I took my RAM heatsinks off, no difference at all other than looks. I used the first setup and the Silver Arrow covers my RAM anyway, so I don't see the ugly green sticks.

go with 1 setup

2nd setup = heat on your RAMs
