Bottleneck by GTX 275? - Page 2

my 1090t (hexa-core) bottlenecks my 6950 @ stock 3.2Ghz.

3.8 tri core might be better than a 3.1ghz quad.

You definitely want to keep it as a quad. It'll overclock. You just need to push harder. tongue.gif You don't state what cooler you have, so that could be your problem.

And any AMD chip currently does in fact bottleneck high end cards. However, that is only obvious in CPU intensive games, such as GTA IV, or BFBC2 (just examples). Otherwise, your CPU is fine for most GPU setups.

And I wouldn't call going from a 250 to a 275 an upgrade. You'll want to look into maybe a GTX460.

actually a GTX 275 performs almost the same as a GTX 460, id say grab a 470 or higher.
But yes in EXTREME cpu intensive games it might be a bottleneck, but it depends on the es, but if you up the volts itll be jim dandy.

This is great advice.
I forgot to even ask why it wont overclock? up voltage, up CPU/NB, and rock n roll.

If your gonna fork out that kind of cash might as well grab a 570, or if you can go AMD a 6950 reference.

... yeah... what about your sig rig. you have a 5850 and a 4ghz phenom. your physics card probably does close to nothing in almost any game that is worth mentioning.

also, how is it possible to turn an athlon into a phenom? pretty sure you are confused there. you turned your athlon x3 into an athlon x4.

and a 3.1ghz athlon x4 will bottleneck a gtx 580 in bad company 2 and DEFINATELY in battlefield 3.

however, it will be just fine with a 275, but i would say skip the 275 as it is now 2 generations old (they skipped 3xx except for mobile, iirc) and you can get decent hardware for relatively cheap.

with the kind of tech we have on the horizon it is worth it to hold out for a better gpu.

how much are you spending on the 275?

sapphire has released a 140 dollar 5850, and you can find open box 6950s for 200 or less.

in fact, if you work in retail you can get a 6950 for 160 bucks this summer!

all in all i do agree that you should upgrade your gpu above anything else tho.

No it doesn't. A GTX460 is faster than a 4890 by FAR. And the 4890 traded blows with a GTX280, and sometimes the 285.

EDIT:
And you CAN in fact unlock an Athlon II x3 into a Phenom II x4. It depends on if the cache is unlocked or not. wink.gif

thats my cooler.

and, yeah I was looking at a 460, but then i was thinking about power restrictions and only being 1440x900, kinda thinking it'd be a waste of power! ya'll think i should rock a 460 ? smile.gif

EDIT: will re edit when finished reading all these new posts! Lol

EDIT EDIT: I could be getting the 275 for 125$ shipped, off a fellow OCN'er.
I'm also thinking about a GTX460, but then i could go 560ti, and uuggh so many choices!
No offense to and AMD'ers, but i'd rather stay nVidia, ive always been nVidia, no use in making the jump now!

I think he said 955, so isnt it 3.2 not 3.1, and we already went through this, if its GTA or BFBC then it MIGHT be a BN, depending on RES, and i think some athlons might have been based of deneb.

At a lower resolution, the 460 will only be that much better. wink.gif

I just played Crysis on my GTX580 at 1280x720...for giggles. Maxed it out with like 80FPS average. wheee.gif At 1080p, I was still playable maxed out (36 FPS average), but yeah.

So yeah, long story short...I'd still say grab the 460. Make it the 1GB model though (non SE).

And do some reading on how to overclock the snot out of your CPU. wink.gif Keep it as a quad though.
