Otherwise I'd go for an indie RPG or something, but that's just me. Check out Torchlight or Grotesque Tactics.
I could never buy Torchlight. No multiplayer = fail in that type of game.

Well, with mods installed it's a gem, good for offline play or travelling, but okay. If you definitely want multiplayer, than Magicka would be a great choice, fairly inexpensive but tons of fun too.

Just for kicks I'll throw out some classics that are pretty cheap these days too: Hitman Blood Money; BioShock; Audiosurf; Company of Heroes; Medieval 2 Total War; Red Faction Guerrilla; STALKER; Civilization IV; Dawn of War II; World of Goo; Zeno Clash.

Edit: Also, someone above mentioned Mirror's Edge. If you've not played it, do yourself a favor and buy it (and don't ditch it in the first hour thinking it's boring).

What, exactly, is Magicka? I seen it on Steam and stuff, but I don't really know what type of game it is. It looks like an RTS, which I have no interest in.

It's a co-op (or single-player) adventure game. Essentially there's six "ingredients" for spells, and you can combine up to five to cast custom spells depending on the situation you're facing.

In other words, it's an extremely complex system where half the fun is screwing up and inadvertently killing your co-op partners while doing so. The other half being actually working with them to combo spells, but usually by accident lol. It's insanely fun, though it does require much more thinking than your usual adventure game since you pretty much have to make up spells on the fly (or memorize a few, but that's easier said than done too).

There's a demo on Steam, though only single player. Worth a shot.

magicka is a co-op adventure game, its quite unique, try the demo on steam, it has some ankward controls at first, but you will be combining spells in no time! its gameplay and humor are great!

if you wish, you can watch this quick look for the game at "giant bomb", it will give you an idea of what the game is about.

btw: aowpr said it has 6 spells, it actually has 8 and 2 hidden ones, there are more than a 1000 spell combinations!

as a side note, i also spport mirrors edge, its only single player and its combat is awful, but the rest of the game is great. its a first person platformer.
the steam version of mirrors edge does not support its DLC (which is great fun), so maybe you should pick up retail or through ea store instead.

Hmm.... Mirror's Edge makes really good use of Physx, doesn't it?
