Honestly, if you want to game, I would prefer you just stick to your desktop. But if you want something portable, I rather go with the asus republic of gamers laptops. You should check them out, they have a much higher end graphics card for a cheaper price in my opinion. Good luck deciding.

All my friends that bought gaming laptops regret it a few months later as it obsolete and has no upgrade path. Personally I would build a gaming desktop and get a cheap/light laptop for on the go computing. BTW $1000 would get you a good laptop with decent gaming performance, $2000 is way too much.

The nvidia 555m on that alienware is slower than the 460m you find on cheaper laptops nowadays.

These 2 laptops have faster gpus (nvidia460m)and is also i7 quads but a the cpu is a little bit slower, but they are MUCH CHEAPER and are from better manufacturers. You can overclock the cpu if you want them faster anyway.

Thank you for the feedback guys. i have the asus G51vx rx05 and i loved it. but one thing about all that laptop is IT WAY TO BIG... i have seen the Alienware M14x in person and it is smaller then my laptop a little bigger then my Mac and it is much more portable then my G51

can you guys help me find a laptop that can run that fast with same size ?

I would seriously consider the features of the Alienware and see if they justify the cost before purchasing. You said this will be used for school and gaming, are you going to be in a dorm where space is a premium, will you have your desktop with you or will this be the only thing you will be gaming on? What type of tasks are you going to be doing, will the extra $200 for the 2820QM be worth it to you over the 2720QM? And while the wireless HD streaming is a nice feature, a 10' HDMI cable can do the same thing for a lot less money, unless that is not an option.

Well yes the HDMI cable could do the same but with the WirelessHD addon i can set my laptop in one room and watch the movie on another is what count for me.

I take 3D art next semester and instead of using the school iMac i really want to do it on my own i tried that on my old G51vx laptop and it didnt go so well..

i do Photoshop for fun and with all that i wanted to do i was thinking that the 2822Qm worth it dont you?
