i5 2500K @4.7ghz @1.345v. All other voltages at auto safe to use?

Thread Starter
I've asked this in my previous thread, but it seems to have gotten hijacked so I'll just make a new thread xD

So right now, I have my CPU voltage set to 1.345v and RAM set to 1.5v.

All the other voltages are set to auto.

What I want to know is will having it on auto cause the BIOS to set its voltage so high that it causes harm to the CPU?

I know testing and setting them manually would be more efficient, but that's not my concern, atm.

Thanks.

Most boards when set to auto voltages, will use the target voltage shown to the left of the auto voltage. The only problem on most of these boards are using auto voltage overclocks in windows in the software, or some obscure bios bugs, that could cause the cpu voltage to be set to above 1.7v, depending on BIOS bugs or a bug with some asus p8p boards, when you save offsets in profiles, and then switch between different profiles (a 0.150v offset might suddenly become 0.900; that killed a moderator's CPU recently).

Well... I don't have my CPU voltage set to auto.

What I do have set to auto is everything else like the PLL overvolt (or something like that) as well as the other voltages.

This is all in the BIOS. I haven't OC using any programs through the OS yet.

You should be fine. Most of the other voltages aren't really changed during operation anyway. The only voltages I usually play with are vcore/RAM/vccio (on high RAM overclocks or using more than 2 sticks of RAM) and I turned the PLL down to 1.75v after some recommendations here. Other than that, you're fine. thumb.gif

I'm not sure what the PPL is set to right now since it shows up as "[Auto]."

It should be fine if I just leave it alone?

I know you don't have the CPU set to auto, but be careful using bios F3 final or F4a/F4 on UD4...there have been some reports of the vcore suddenly becoming 1.7v when VTT was raised, even after a proper, full cmos clear, and loading optimized defaults, and ALL profiles erased properly. And another report of F4 requiring 1.2 VTT to pass 4.3 ghz (any lower VTT=immediate crash on prime small fft), while F3D was perfectly fine on 1.05 VTT all the way to 4.8 ghz.

I believe I'm on the F2 BIOS.

Anything I should be worried about?
F2 has too many cold boot bugs.
Most reliable BIOS is F3D beta. Flash it, then clear the cmos by first powering off after the flash (I use a usb flash drive with MS DOS/windows 98 dos mdoe boot disk, and flashspi, as this is the most reliable), unplug the PSU, turn on the case after the PSU is unplugged to clear the +5VSB, then take a screwdriver and short the two clear CMOS/RTC jumper pins for about 30 seconds,, then power back on the PSU and case, and set the settings in the BIOS.

after you set all your settings completely, and save and exit once, then after the second reboot, hold alt and f12 when the POST begins, to copy the main bios to the backup BIOS.

That should get you going.
BTW its PLL, not PPL. Someone misspelled it on an old thread and it caught on...and Auto is the same as "disabled," basically...no need to enable it unless you get a freeze on the wndows startup screen or a blinking cursor at higher multis.
