Memory usage is excessive

Thread Starter
I was playing some bad company 2 and a window popped up telling me i needed to close the program because i didnt have enough free memory.

Task manager tells me that more or less 4gb of memory are being used on idle...

im assuming im infected by a virus but avira didnt find anything.

im installing malwarebytes right now, anything else i could do?
any theories on what it could be?

any help will be appreciated.

dont know what a memory leak is, what should i patch?
if its to long to explain, is there any place where i can learn about it?

malwarebytes didnt show up anything either.

EDIT: a memory leak is when a program does not "free" a memory block, usually associated with c or c++?

how do i confirm this is the issue? how do i deal with it?

most games are done using c or c++ or even c#, the only thing you can do is update your game. if it continues, try to get hold of the vendor.

my ignorance was making me belive that would be something permanent, after restart everything works fine.

i think i know the game that caused the memory leak, forzen synapse, currently under beta.

most likely it was. when i played crysis prior to a patch, i had to restart the game every so often because the memory got out of control. sounds like this is similar for you as well.

For future reference, a memory leak is when something is issued memory, but it doesn't release it once it is finished with it.
