I get the point that blackbalt89 is making, but I wish people would stop acting so righteous and high-and-mighty. I for one have never been put in the hypothetical situation that the OP is presenting, but it's completely naive to think that you know exactly how you would act in a certain situation WITHOUT ACTUALLY BEING IN IT. I know that if I dropped and broke a $300+ piece of hardware and saw a quick/easy opportunity to get it back, I would definitely be tempted by it.

It's great that you have such good morals, but please don't act like you know what it's like to be in a situation you most likely have never found yourself in.

My mom trys to pull the fast one on stores, if something breaks or isn't working, buy a new one return it with the old one in it. Life goes on, so many people do it. Walmart takes anything back; my mom's seen people returned kid's shoes that look like they've been worn every day for a year.

I wouldn't do something like return kid's shoes that have been abused and destroyed or a computer I purposefully threw into a wood chipper. But if I had accidentally dropped a GPU or scratched a motherboard's traces because the supplied screws were shoddy and impossible to screw in, then yeah, I would attempt to return or RMA the component.
It's a new component and an accident; I would definitely first attempt to tell the representative the truth and appeal to their better nature. If that didn't work I'd call again or return to the store to see someone else and act dumb like it just wouldn't work lol.

In the end, everyone lies, cheats, and steals (even/ especially your beloved corporations/ governments) . I am one of the first who would love it if this weren't true but it is; you're usually always the one disadvantaged when you always follow the rules which is a sad reality.

Funny you should mention that. I was returning something to Wal-Mart the other day and I saw them refuse a return. A lady was trying to return some pillows (can you imagine? lol). Anyways, they were about to do the return but then denied her because she had cut the tags off of the pillows. The woman couldn't believe it, she was completely indignant.
